The growing season is winding down, but our garden is still producing veggies. Two weeks ago we donated 100 pounds of watermelon to the Sister of Mercy in Asbury Park, and this week and last we donated tomatoes and peppers to needy seniors residing in Ocean Twp.
The warm August days are doing wonders for our vegetable garden. On Saturday, August 12 we harvested 67 pounds of tomatoes, zucchini, and peppers. Some of the tomatoes weighed one pound each! Our zinnias are also growing beautifully and we've been able to make bouquets for the worship area. This harvest brings our yearly total to 409 pounds donated to the food bank.
