Post Epiphany Prayer

(EPIPHANY: revelation, manifestation, eye-opener)

Good morning, good God!

I’m fresh from Epiphany
with its star and magi and gifts...

You've revealed so much to so many, Lord,
and yet so much remains hidden,
yet to be found,
yet to be known...

You revealed yourself as a newborn:
your divine innocence, vulnerably human,
inviting intimacy...

Help me see in your childhood, Lord:
my brother, my savior, my redeemer,
my prince of peace, my merciful judge,
my healing and my hope…

I pray that in the year ahead
you'll continue to reveal, disclose,
to unwrap your presence in my life…

So this morning I offer you my vision, Lord:
help me see what you reveal…

Help me see you
when you show yourself
in the people I don’t like,
in the people who aren't like me,
and in the people who don’t like me…

Help me see you, Lord,
when I can't find you:
show me where you are
when I think you've abandoned me,
when I fear you can't find me,
when I wonder if you've forgotten me...

Help me see your healing hand
when you pour out your grace
and touch the wounds
of my sorrow and pain…

Reveal yourself as the source of my joy,
the source of every gift that's mine:
and for all I have, O Lord, help me give you
all the glory and praise...

Help me see you
in the moment at hand, Lord,
and in my past, too:
show me where you are
and where you were
in the times I couldn't find you...

Show up in my life every day, Lord!
And reveal yourself
at every twist and turn
along the path I walk…

And at least once in a while, Lord,
dazzle me with your brightness and beauty –
I could use a few showstoppers
to carry me through my dark nights
and my cloudy days…

Reveal your truth, Lord,
show me your counsel and wisdom,
in your word, in the gospels, in the psalms,
in the whole of scripture:
make me faithful to your word
in reading it, hearing it, praying it
and living it, day by day...

Reveal yourself to me in my prayer, Lord:
help me find the face of your presence
when I set apart time to pray;
let the silence of prayer speak your grace
and its peace uncover your care for me...

Help me see you in the church's prayer
and especially, Lord, reveal yourself to me
in the Bread and Cup of the Eucharist…

Unfold your plan for me, Lord:
let me see where you lead me,
where you call me,
where you want me to go,
what you ask me to do...

Reveal yourself again and again as once you did
in the manger at Bethlehem,
in the waters of the Jordan,
at the wedding in Cana,
in the Upper Room,
on the hill of Calvary
and in the light of Easter joy...

This morning I offer you my vision, Lord:
all that I see and hope to see
with my eyes, my heart, my mind…

Show me who you are, O God,
and keep me as the apple of your eye…

Amen.
